Shark Moving – Your Fisher Island Moving Company

Fisher Island has no bridge. Everything that moves on or off the island goes on the ferry of the Fisher Island Community Association (FICA), and a moving crew counts as a vendor: registered with the association, cleared by its security and booked on the commercial ferry from Terminal East on the MacArthur Causeway. Shark Moving is registered with FICA, and we run island moves in trucks under the ferry's 24-foot limit.

Homes on the island belong to condominium and homeowners associations, and a move needs your association's approval before FICA's. We send the association our certificate of insurance in the form it asks for — naming FICA as an additional insured when the building requires coverage — reserve the service elevator, and pad the elevator and the hallways before the first piece comes out.

Inside the home we work as white glove movers: furniture wrapped in blankets and stretch film, art and antiques crated, mirrors and stone tops boxed to size, and everything placed and assembled in the rooms you choose. If the new home is not ready yet, your belongings wait in our climate-controlled storage.

Moving on Fisher Island: What to Know

Fisher Island is an unincorporated community in Miami-Dade County, south of Miami Beach, with 561 residents in the 2020 Census. There is no bridge or causeway: the island is reached by FICA's ferry, which runs around the clock from two terminals on the MacArthur Causeway — Terminal West at 190 for residents and guests, Terminal East at 112 for employees and commercial vehicles.

Moving trucks go on the commercial ferry, which runs Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., and vehicles must be under 24 feet long and 8 feet wide, so a standard 26-foot moving truck does not fit. FICA registers contractors and runs a background check on each worker; its rules allow contractor work Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with workers off the island by 5:30 p.m., and none on major holidays. The commercial ferry also stops for two weeks over December and January, on dates FICA announces each year.

Approval comes in two steps: first your building's association, then FICA. If the association requires insurance, the certificate must name FICA as an additional insured. Tell us your move date early, and we arrange both approvals and the ferry around it.

We send trucks under the ferry's 24-foot limit and plan the number of crossings for the size of your home.
